This weekend was the 4th Annual African Festival of Boston and I guess I happened to be in the right city at the right time. The program started at 11am but I found myself wondering around City Hall (original location) and after fruitless attempts to find the festival resorted to other things. Finally found the location almost around 5pm and I must say we got there at the right time. The young Nigerian lady (pictured above), with big hair, so much sass and personality and the biggest voice drowned the crowd in her soulful jazzy voice. She is so good and LIVE!!! I'm sure musically inclined people know how hard it is for musician to sound great at live performances. She was very engaging, authentic and original (so hard to find now). She infused her Nigerian culture into her music, injecting splashes of Yoruba here and there. I hope she's able to keep her authenticity and venture into the mainstream, she's too good for the world not to see.
Sadly I didn't get her name. If you know who she is kindly let me know, I'm still trying to find out. She has an album coming out soon too. I will definitely post details when I successfully track her down. I have finally been able to find out the amazing face behind the voice. Her name is Kaline Akinkugbe, check out her Facebook page here you can also search for her on Youtube.
Here are some shots I took at the festival and as you can see I joined in the merriment doing my Azonto, Kukere and some makosa! Outfit details coming soon.
Have a nice Sunday!
